Posted: August 31, 2004 Sports: First nutritionist ever to appear on a Wheaties box Champaign, IL –An honor typically reserved for the most elite athletes, adorning a Wheaties box is not a typical aspiration for the average nutritionist. But then again, Nancy Clark is anything but average. The sports nutrition consultant and bestselling author of "Nancy Clark’s Sports Nutrition Guidebook" can now add a Wheaties box appearance to her long list of credentials, as she is portrayed alongside two of America’s greatest track and field performers, Carl Lewis and Jackie Joyner-Kersee, as well as coach Bob Kersee on ‘The Breakfast of Champions’ cereal box. “Eat your Wheaties” has served as much more than a slogan for Clark, who has frequently touted the fiber-rich cereal as part of a healthy diet. “The complex carbohydrates in Wheaties aid glycogen replenishment in fatigued muscles to help you train your best,” Clark said. Clark is the director of nutrition services at SportsMedicine Associates in Brookline, Massachusetts, one of the largest athletic injury clinics in the Boston area. A registered dietitian specializing in nutrition for sports, exercise, and weight management, Clark counsels everyone from casual exercisers to competitive athletes, including such famous clients as players from the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics as well as many elite and Olympic athletes. She is also the sports nutrition consultant to Boston College’s sports medicine department and the Arthritis Foundation’s Joint in Motion Marathon Training Program. "Nancy Clark’s Sports Nutrition Guidebook" expounds upon Clark’s extensive framework of knowledge. It is a practical guide for readers to choose the right foods, to fuel their bodies, to feel better, and to perform better. More than 350,000 fitness enthusiasts and athletes have turned to the first three editions of this book for Clark’s straightforward sports nutrition and weight management advice. Now, many more will become familiar with Clark through the nationwide rollout of these two special edition Wheaties boxes in August.
