Athletics: American National Team At 100K World Cup This Weekend

The 100K World Cup, the longest official World Title event in the sport, will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, on a flat, 10-kilometer road loop course around the town of Winschoten, The Netherlands. The American National Team at the event will be led by Howard Nippert of Blacksburg, Va. and Nikki Kimball of Livingston, Montana. Nippert has been the leading American at the 100K distance for the past three years and is hoping for a top 10 finish in the event. Kimball has emerged as the top all-around American ultra woman the past two years. She finished 8th to lead the American women at last year's World 100K in Taiwan.

The American Men's team is rounded out by this year's National 100K champion, Tim Clement of Solon, Ohio, and by Charles Hubbard of Bloomington, Minn. Joining Kimball on the distaff team will be this year's National 100K gold and silver medalists, Anne Riddle of Asheville, N.C. and Ann Heaslett of Madison, Wis. Unfortunately, a last-minute decision by the host event indicates that these American teams will not be included among the officially scored national teams.
