Posted: September 14, 2004 Triathlon: 2005 Ironman Wisconsin Sells Out in 13 Hours 2005 Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon closed to general entry MADISON, Wisc.-The 2005 Ironman Wisconsin triathlon, set to take place on Sunday, September 11, has closed to general entry. The event closed in only 13 hours, as registration for the event began at 10 a.m. EST on Monday, September 13 and closed by 10 p.m. EST. “Ironman Wisconsin has proven to be as popular event as any that we host,” said Ironman North America President Graham Fraser. “It is a great tribute to the communities and the local volunteers that athletes rush to fill the event in half a day.” The 2004 event, which took place on Sunday, September 12, saw 2,188 athletes compete. Ironman Triathlon features a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike and a complete marathon all run in succession. Athletes have 17 hours (from 7 a.m. to midnight) to complete the event. There are currently 17 Ironman events around the world, including five in the continental United States. Athletes will competing for 80 qualifying spots to the 2006 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii as well as a $25,000 pro prize purse.
