Posted: September 16, 2004 Athletics: Strong Field in Place for Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run From: Chris Reynolds, (610) 566-1960/(610) 547-9800 mobile PHILADELPHIA - (Sept. 15, 2004) - A strong international field will compete in the Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run, including 2003 JHPDR champion Leah Malot, 2001-2002 champ Ronald Mogaka, U.S. marathon and half-marathon record holder and three-time champ Khalid Khannouchi and 2004 U.S. Olympian Marla Runyan. This Sunday will mark the 27th running of the Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run, which has been the scene of 55 Open and age group records set over the years. Runner's World calls it America's premier half-marathon, and nearly 10,000 local runners and national stars will compete in the 13.1 mile JHPDR and its associated events. $39,000 in prize money is awarded to the top men and women in Open and masters divisions of the Distance Run, the country's 4th largest half-marathon. Locations: JHPDR runners start at 10th & Market Streets in Center City Philadelphia, and cross the finish line at 17th & the Ben Franklin Parkway after a finishing mile from the Art Museum down the Parkway. Big Walkers take off at the same location just after the JHPDR start. The 5Km race goes out and back from the JHPDR finish line, along the Parkway & Kelly Drive. Expo headquarters is at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, 12th & Market. Enter the events, pick up race packets, hear speakers including 2004 U.S. Olympic marathoner and local Jen Rhines and shop for the latest in running gear and services at the Race Expo on Friday and Saturday at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.
