Posted: September 18, 2004 Triathlon: Woods and Frankland win Irish National Title
Trevor Woods wrapped up the National Series (NS) title by winning The Lost Sheep Triathlon in Kenmare on Saturday. Woods, 33, from Omagh but living and working in Cork beat last years winner Peter Swaine by over 3 mins. Woods has had a great season this year. He won bronze in the World Championships in Madeira earlier in May, this is his third NS victory and a great way to win the overall title. Woods has 470 pts, his nearest rival is 145 points away from him in the rankings. This was the last NS race of the year, it is a series of 10 races around the country, points from your best six count. Lisa Higgns, 30 from Limerick won the womens race in a time of 5.08.27. Anna Frankland, 26 from Dublin came second. Anna has won the womens National Series title for 2004 with 555 points, she won 3 NS races and came second 4 times. Her nearest rival was Lisa Higgins whose win today gives her 495 pts. The Lost Sheep Half Ironman Triathlon is the toughest and longest triathlon in Ireland. It is run by Cork Triathlon Club. It begins with a 1.9k swin in Kenmare harbour, followed by one of the toughest bike courses in Europe, a 90k cycle through the Kerry mountains which incorporates the infamous Healy Pass. The 200 athletes then went back into Kenmare where they finished up with a half marathon, a 21K run along the Sheen river. Hibernian Lost Sheep Half Ironman Triathlon, Kenmare, Co.
