Posted: September 21, 2004 Duathlon: World's Leading Duathletes Head for Swansea
Many of the World's best duathletes are heading to Swansea this weekend for the European Duathlon Championships and ITU World Series race. No fewer than eleven medallists from the senior, under 23 and junior elite races at the ITU World Championships held in Geel, Belgium earlier this year will be competing in Wales. Lino Barruncho of Portugal, World Championship Silver Medallist heads the men's elite entry. In the elite women's race the entry includes Great Britain's Annie Emmerson, World Championship Silver Medallist and Laura Giordano of Italy, World Championship Bronze Medallist. The men's under 23 elite field is headed by World Champion, Joerie Vansteelant of Belgium and includes the silver and bronze medallists from Geel, Jose Tovar of Spain and Benjamin Grenetier of France. World Under 23 Women's Champion, Miek Vyncke of Bellgium and bronze medallist Michelle Fangmann of the Netherlands take part in the Women's under 23 race. Renata Koch of Hungary, the World Junior Champion takes part in the Junior Women's race together with silver medallist, Hestia Veldboer from the Netherlands. In the Junior Men's race the athlete who finished third in the World Championships behind Great Britain's Oliver Freeman and Will Clarke, Martin Urbanovsky of Slovakia, heads the field. The elite men's race will feature seven of the top ten finshers from Geel and the women's race features five of the top ten.
