Posted: September 22, 2004 Duathlon: Whitcombe Sets Her Sights On Gold
22 September 2004: Former Olympic 5000 metre runner Andrea Whitcombe has confirmed she will race at the European Duathlon Championships in Swansea this Sunday. The event will be Whitcombe’s first major duathlon championship and she is tipped to cause a major upset among a world class field which includes the current World Championship sliver and bronze medallist. The 10k run / 40k cycle / 5k run course is relatively flat and will provide the perfect platform for Whitcombe to display her outstanding running ability which could see her take the gold medal. The 1998 Commonwealth Games 5000 metre silver medallist switched to triathlon after the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and takes to the start line on top form after a series of excellent results at International Triathlon Union World Cup races world wide and a first at the recent London triathlon with a blistering run. The event website is at: www.britishtriathlon.org/. Comment on this story. |
