Posted: September 26, 2004 Athletics: Itati And Douma-Hussar Win Pennsylvania Avenue Mile From David Monti (c) 2004 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com Despite running a 62-minute half-marathon only six days before, John Itati won his fourth straight title at the Pennsylvania Avenue Mile, held today in Washington, D.C. Itati, who set the course record of 3:58.7 in 2002, beat Australian Mark Fountain by just 32/100ths of a second: 4:04.57 to 4:04.89. Kenyan Nicholas Kurgat was a distant third in 4:07.38. Canadian Olympian Carmen Douma-Hussar dominated the women's race, moving up from her second place finish at this race last year. Douma-Hussar clocked 4:36.79, well ahead of second place Amy Mortimer of West Roxbury, Mass. (4:39.63). Both Itati and Douma-Hussar won $2000 for their victories.
