Posted: September 28, 2004 Triathlon: 2004 Triathlon Ireland National Series (NS) has been decided From: Wes Murphy
Trevor Woods and Anna Frankland are the 2004 National Series Winners. The National Series is a series of 10 triathlons, the 10 best and biggest races out of the 45 in the calendar. The rankings are based on the performance of an athletes best 6 races out of the 10. This Series was unsponsored in 2004 but we are looking for a sponsor for 2005. Trevor Woods
Trevor did his first Try-a-triathlon in 1989 in Omagh and has gone from strength to strength since. He has a deservedly long list of titles to his name, he adds the 2004 NS title to his 2003 title, he is the 2004 Irish Middle Distance Champ (Kenmare), he got a bronze medal in the 2004 Tri Age-group World Champs in Madeira, Irish Tri Champ in 1998, 1999, Sprint Champ in 1999, he finished 23rd in the 2002 Commonwealth Games, 7th in 1999 World Champs, 24th in 1998, he finished 2nd in the 1999 European A-G Champs and many, many more. In this NS he won the Carrick, Kinsale and Kenmare Triathlons, 2nd in Galway and Dublin. He came 11th in the ITU Lough Neagh race.
Anna Frankland
Anna has a background in swimming. She did her first Tri in 2001, the Youghal Maritime Triathlon and took to the sport straight away. She hasn't as many titles as Trevor yet but if she keeps progressing as she has been she'll have a full trophy cabinet soon. In 2004 alone, Anna competed in her first European Triathlon Age-group Champs in Switzerland and got a bronze medal. She was second in the Irish Championships. In the NS she won the Derry, Kinsale and Lough Neagh Tri's and was second in Galway, Kilkee, Carrick and third in Kenmare, a consistent performer in sprint, olympic and middle distances. One to watch in 2005. The final top 20 are listed below,
5 men did 7 races - Ciaran Cassidy, Brian Murphy, Rory Brennan, Oliver Harkin and Mick Macken (a mix of newbie and vet), and 3 women - Anna Frankland, Emma Quirke and Loraine Creane. Most did 6 or less.
