Athletics: 10th Annual Toronto Marathon Runs This Sunday, October 17th

Top Elite Male and Female Athletes Expected to Shatter Course Record

An International Elite field of world class runners will be vying to shatter course records for the 10th Annual Toronto Marathon on Sunday.

Overall, there will be an estimated 10,000 runners from 30 different countries.

The Toronto Marathon is unique in that there are 4 events - Full Marathon (26.2 miles); Half Marathon; Corporate Relay Challenge, and 5K Run.

The event starts Sunday, October 17, 2004 with the Full Marathon at 9:00 am followed by the Half Marathon and 5K at 8:30 am and the Corporate Challenge at 9:20 am

Events begin at Mel Lastman Square and finish at Queen's Park.

Highlights:
Join 50,000+ spectators and 1,500 volunteers,
$100,000 - largest marathon purse in Canada,
$25,000 for first Male and Female Finishers,
Charitable partners, Princess Margaret Hospital, MS, Leukemia, Hemophilia and POGO have received over $3.5 million since 1995,
The Marathon generates over $15 million in revenue for the city,
The Toronto Marathon is consistently ranked among the world's best in organization, friendliness, and rate of growth,
CBC Television will broadcast the Toronto Marathon on Saturday, October 23 @ 2pm(EST) and rebroadcast on Sunday, October 24 @ 12:30pm(EST)
