Posted: October 18, 2004 Triathlon: Reid 2nd, Fuhr 3rd At Ironman Notes from the Ironman Hawaii Race Course: In the most unusual day in the Kona lava fields where the men and women’s winners started the run with insurmountable leads, Peter Reid and Heather Fuhr added another chapter to their storied Kona careers. With the fastest splits of the day, Peter and Heather ran themselves up to second and third place respectively. This was Peter’s second runner-up finish in Kona to go with his three Championships. Heather now has finished in every top 10 position except second place and tenth place….At only 26 years old, Kate Major reconfirmed that she is the best of the new crop of Ironman athletes with a very solid and impressive fourth place finish…Defending women’s Champion, Lori Bowden suffered with a reaction to a bee sting on her inside thigh to finish 11th…Simon Lessing’s much anticipated debut in Kona ended with a leg strain halfway on the bike….Chris Legh finished in 39th place after getting off to a rough start when he was kicked in the throat in the swim….Luke Bell had a variety of problems on the bike resulting in him being sent to the medical tent at the bike-run transition area.
