Triathlon: Ironman standout Legh to compete at Soma Triathlon

TEMPE, Ariz.-Ironman standout Chris Legh (Australia) will compete in the 2004 Soma Triathlon set to take place on Sunday, October 31 in Tempe, Arizona.

Legh has posted two Ironman wins in his career, including a win this past June at Ironman USA Coeur d’Alene. Legh used a strong run to take the lead at the event with a little more than a mile to go, posting an overall time of 8:42:56.

Legh also earned an Ironman title at Ironman California back in 2000.

The 31-year-old has also registered a pair of top-ten finishes at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, as well as eight top-three Ironman finishes in his career.

2002 saw Legh post a pair of top-five finishes at Ironman North America events. Legh was second at the inaugural Ironman Wisconsin triathlon held in September of 2002 at Madison, Wisc. and was also fourth at the Ironman Florida triathlon in November of 2002.

Legh joins three-time Ironman Australia champion Chris McCormack (Australia) as the early favorite to take the Soma Triathlon men’s title. McCormack and Legh finished first and second respectively at the 2003 Soma event.

“Legh has had a great triathlon season thus far this year, winning Ironman USA Coeur d’Alene back in June,” said Soma Triathlon Race Director Jeff Suffolk. “It is great that he will finish off his racing season again this year by competing at the Soma triathlon.”
