Posted: October 27, 2004 Athletics: Browne named Athlete of the Week INDIANAPOLIS - Dan Browne has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after he set a course record Sunday at the 2004 Army Ten-Miler in Washington, D.C. A 2004 Olympic marathoner and 10,000m runner who is an Army National Guard Captain, Dan Browne maintained his early lead at the Army Ten-Miler to win the men's race in 47 minutes, 29 seconds. A resident of Portland, Ore., Browne finished 12th in the 10,000m and 65th in the men's marathon last August at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. The 1997 graduate of West Point plans to compete in his first ING New York City Marathon on November 7. Now in its fourth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week. Comment on this story. |
