Posted: October 28, 2004 Athletics: Abdi Abdirahman to Enter the University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame Two-time U.S. Olympian Abdi Abdirahman of Tucson, Ariz. will be inducted Friday, Oct. 29 into the University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame. A 1999 graduate of Arizona, Abdirahman, 27, the 2001 USA 10,000 meter champion, was an All-American in cross country and on the track. On Sunday, Nov. 7, he will be making his marathon debut at the ING New York City Marathon, and the Team Running USA athlete has been training at Mammoth Lakes, Calif. with 2004 Olympic marathon silver medalist Meb Keflezighi, 2003 USA Marathon champion Ryan Shay and Brandon Leslie as they all prepare for the ING New York City Marathon. The induction ceremony begins at 5:30pm at the Jim Click Hall of Fame. The University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee will honor nine individuals and six teams for induction during the Homecoming Weekend. Former NCAA cross country and track champion Amy Skieresz will also be inducted.
