The Silicon Valley Marathon® benefits the Silicon Valley Children’s Hospital Foundation, and offers new and seasoned runners the chance to compete in a marathon, a half-marathon, a 5 km run/walk, and in a series of kids races presented by Phelps Orthodontics. The marathon, which will start at 7:00am in downtown San Jose at Park and Almaden, includes nearly 16 miles on the beautiful Los Gatos Creek Trail that winds by Vasona Lake Park and offers spectacular views of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The dramatic finish and post-race celebration will take place in spacious Discovery Meadow, conveniently located close to the start line. Notable marathon competitors will include: Ian Rascji—an 11-year old local boy; Matt Chico—who just completed a 3,800 mile run across America to raise money for measles vaccinations in Africa and will be running our marathon as the final leg of his incredible journey; and San Jose City Councilmember Ken Yeager. Olympic Star and soccer legend Brandi Chastain is the honorary event chair and will be on hand to start the marathon and half-marathon, and to present finishers’ medals to kids races competitors, at 11am in Discovery Meadow. Also on hand at the 7am start will be Cindy Chavez, City of San Jose councilmember, Dan Fenton, president and CEO of the San Jose Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Carlo Guardino, president and CEO of the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group.
