Athletics: Cheribo, Jeptoo Win In Milan

MILANO, Italy -- Running in foggy but otherwise ideal conditions, Kenyans Daniel Cheribo and Rita Jeptoo were the victors this morning at the fifth Citroen Milano City Marathon.

Cheribo clocked a personal best 2:08:38 on the flat, fast course for his first marathon win, eclipsing John Nada Saya's event record of 2:08:57 set in 2001. Jeptoo, in her second marathon appearance, clocked 2:28:11, also a personal best.

Benjamin Kipchumba finished second in 2:09:23 with Enock Mitei third in 2:10:52, both personal bests. In the women's race, Italy's Gloria Marconi was the runner-up (2:31:53) with Debora Toniolo (2:34:24) third.
