Triathlon: McDonald Retains ITU Presidency

2004-12-06 -- Vancouver, BC

Canadian Les McDonald, from North Vancouver, BC, retained the Presidency of the International Triathlon Union defeating challenger, Dr. Sarah Springman, of Great Britain by seven (7) votes at the 2004 ITU Congress here on December 4th. The final tally was McDonald – 40; Springman – 33. McDonald was elected for a four (4) year term through to 2008.

Also elected from Canada for four (4) year terms were the following: Loreen Barnett (West Vancouver, BC) to the Technical Committee, Sheila O’Kelly (Edmonton, AB) to the Credentials Committee, Patrice Brunet (Montreal, QC) to the Constitution Committee and Pamela Fralick (Toronto, ON) to the Women’s Committee.

All Canadians who were seeking ITU positions were elected.
