Triathlon: Quelle Challenge Roth announces new representative in U.S.

TEAMChallenge GmbH is pleased to announce that triathlon journalist Amy White, editor of the email newsletter Triathlon Informer, will begin work this month as the English-language representative for the Quelle Challenge Roth, the world's largest iron-distance triathlon.

Steve Handwerker, whose SLH Communications has ably represented the race for the last three years, has moved on to other opportunities within the sport.

"We want to thank Steve for all of his hard work for us in the last three years, especially for all the help he provided after we ended our ties with the World Triathlon Corporation and established ourselves as an independent race," said race director Herbert Walchshoefer.

White, a California-based writer and editor, is also a two-time finisher at Roth, in 2003 and 2004.

"I couldn't be more thrilled with the opportunity to represent this wonderful race in the U.S. and in English-speaking countries abroad," she said. "I want to encourage as many athletes as possible to make the trip to Roth and discover the magic of the place and the race. It's a true pleasure to work with the fantastic people who make it all possible."

Race day for the 2005 Quelle Challenge Roth will be Sunday, July 3 and will include, as it did last year, the German Long-Distance Championship and the second Ultra-Distance World Championship for Firefighters. Entries are being accepted now, with fees for early applicants at 210 euros through Dec. 31. The popular relay division has already filled, with 450 teams.

Organizers expect 2,000 individual starters to take the start of the fabled race course, home to the world's fastest iron-distance times and thousands of cheering fans.
