Duathlon: Mason To Host Duathlon National Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 7, 2005) – USA Triathlon has announced that it will hold its 2005 Duathlon National Championships on June 11-12 in Mason, Ohio.

The duathlon national championships for elite/pro triathletes will be held June 11. There will be a $5,000 prize purse. Age group duathletes will race on June 12. Athletes will complete a 10k run, 40k bike and 5k run.

The top six finishers in each age group will qualify for the 2005 International Triathlon Union Duathlon World Championships on Sept. 25-26 in Newcastle, Australia. Slots will roll down to the top 15. Any unfilled slots from other qualifying races will be added to the respective age groups at the national championships.

3.5-mile run; 21-mile bike; 2.7-mile run

The top finisher in EACH age group at each regional qualifier wins a complimentary entry to the 2005 Duathlon National Championship.

Registration for the duathlon national championship will open Jan. 24, 2005.

Mason is located just north of Cincinnati and south of Dayton off of interstates 71 and 75. Mason is easily accessible by two major airports, Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and the Dayton International Airport.
