Triathlon: Quelle Challenge Roth nearing capacity

The Quelle Challenge Roth, the world's largest long-course race, has room for only 400 more starters, with some 1,800 triathletes from 30 countries already signed up to tackle the fabled course near Nuremberg, Germany, on July 3. That's a 35 percent increase in registration over this point last year, pointing to the continued popularity of the classic race.

The race is likely to fill well before its March 31 deadline for regular registration, and athletes wishing a place on the start line are urged to sign up soon.

The relay, which has room for 450 teams of swim/bike/run athletes, filled before the end of the year-and now waiting lists for the relay are closed as well.

The start list is taking on an even greater international flavor for 2005, with 20 percent of the field so far hailing from outside Germany, including a 25-strong contingent from Morocco and more than 250 athletes from France.

Race day for the 2005 Quelle Challenge Roth will be Sunday, July 3 and will include, as it did last year, the German Long-Distance Championship and the second Ultra-Distance World Championship for Firefighters.
