Olympic champion Stefan Holm will return to the "Banskobystricka Latka" meeting on Feb. 8, aiming for his third straight win at the annual indoor high jump event in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia.

"I would love to go there and fulfill a hat trick," said the 27-year-old Swede, who was unbeaten in 22 competitions indoors and out in 2004, currently the longest win streak in athletics. "But it’s still a long way to go, a lot of training to be done. When I’m looking back at 2004 I think Banska was my best opportunity to jump 2.40. I made a great competition and had only made five jumps before attempting 2.40 and really felt that I had a great chance of clearing it."

Holm is planning three competitions prior to the Banska Bystrica event, hoping to be ready for big things. "If everything works out the way I want it to," he said, "I think there will be a good chance for me to jump really high."

The meet record, a 2.36 leap by Romanian Sorin Matei, was set in 1995.

Glasgow Meet Sells Out

The Norwich Union International, a five nation match between Great Britain, France, Italy, Sweden and Russia scheduled for Glasgow's Kelvin Hall on Jan. 29, is offically a sell-out, organizers announced today.

"We are delighted that the meeting has sold-out well in advance," said Jon Ridgeon, managing partner for event organizer Fast Track. "This shows that the enthusiasm for athletics in Glasgow is as strong as ever and sports fans in Scotland can expect a fantastic afternoon of competition." 3,800 tickets were available.

Double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes, who wil contest the 1500, was the meet's main attraction. World Indoor 60 meter champion Jason Gardener is also slated to compete. Get a FREE trial Subscription to The TRACK PROFILE Report TODAY!
