Posted: January 16, 2005 Triathlon: Canadians Rank High in Final 2004 ITU Standings
The final ITU World Rankings of the 2004 season are now available. In the final World Rankings there were two Canadian women in the top ten. In the seperate World Cup Standings, based only on 2004 World Cup results, three Canadian women and one man have cracked the top 20. Jill Savege of Penticton finished the year in the highest position of the Canadian women – claiming the 9th position overall in the World Cup standings and a phenomenal 4th position in the World Rankings. In 2004 Jill earned podium finishes in both the Rio and Tongyeong ITU World Cup events. Carol Montgomery was 7th position in the overall World Rankings and finished the season in 15th position overall in the World Cup standings. Montreal’s Samantha McGlone finished the season in 12th position overall in the World Cup standings. Samantha had a break-though year in 2004, claiming a position on the Canadian Olympic team with a phenomenal run in the Edmonton World Cup. On the men’s side Simon Whitfield finished 2004 in 17th position in the ITU World Rankings and tied for 20th position in the World Cup standings. Also tied with Simon in the World Cup standings are Nathan Richmond (NZL), Frederic Belaubre (FRA) and Sebastien Dehmer (GER). The ITU World Cup winners for 2004 were Anja Dittmer (GER) and Dimitry Gaag (KAZ). The overall season world rankings leaders were Ivan Rana (ESP) and Barb Lindquist (USA).
