Triathlon: City Of Philadelphia Triathlon Registration Limit Increased To 1,250

Outstanding response in short time for Olympic distance triathlon Sunday, June 26, 2005 in Fairmount Park

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Tuesday, January 18, 2005 - A little more than two months after being announced, registration for the City of Philadelphia Triathlon, June 26, 2005, has reached the initial cap of 1,000 athletes. After studying the course and transition area and reviewing prior discussions with the City Race Director, Lars Beck, announced that the registration limit has been increased to 1,250.

"We don't believe it's right to close registration and shut out so many interested athletes," says Beck. "We're confident that race quality and safety won't be affected by this increase. We remain committed to delivering a first class, high quality race and experience to the Philadelphia area triathlon community." Beck continued noting "There will be no future increases - 1,250 will be the maximum!"

The City of Philadelphia Triathlon will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2005. It's an Olympic distance race featuring a 1.5k swim in the Schuylkill River, a 40k bike and 10k run through Philadelphia's scenic and historic Fairmount Park. The race will draw many of the region's top competitors, triathletes of all levels, first timers and many athletes from surrounding States. The region's chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will field a team as part of its popular Team in Training program.

The City of Philadelphia Triathlon will be a fun, safe, challenging race that provides entertainment and competition for athletes, while giving back to the community. A portion of race proceeds will be donated to the Fairmount Parks District to enhance and beautify the region, The Police Athletic League to improve the quality of recreational resources for Philadelphia children, and to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to benefit their Division of Oncology.

Initial race sponsors include Cadence Performance Cycling Centers, Endless Pools, Fox Rothschild and Penguin Shoe Brands.

Full race information and registration is available at www.phillytri.com.
