Athletics: Invaders' Sanders, Swanson Hits Qualifying Marks

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Invaders Hope Sanders has earned the right to run against America's top milers at the USA Indoor National Championships after running a US Indoor qualifying time of 4:40.55 in the Mile at the Meyo Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, on February 5, 2005.

Sanders, a two-time US Olympic Trials competitor in the 800, took second in the Meyo Invitational Mile with a career best time of 4:40.55 which is more than five seconds faster then the USA Indoor qualifying standard of 4:46.14. Sanders is now qualified in both the Mile and 800, after running 2:06.58 last weekend.

Adrian Swanson, a graduate of Indiana State University, also qualified for the USA Indoor National Championships after winning the second section of the 800 with a career best time of 1:50.04. Swanson is a three-time US National Championship competitor in the 400 hurdles.

Teammate Natasha Lothery, a graduate of Ball State University, was eighth in the 800 with a season best time of 2:09.49. Lesley Read ran 9:47.88 in the 3000. Alisha Miller was eighth in the 400 (55.44). Jamey Sperle was eighth in the 400 (47.87).

Team Director Greg Harger said, "Sanders destroyed her career best in the Mile with her efforts. She has earned the right to double at Indoor Nationals in the 800 and Mile." Harger added, "This was a good weekend. Swanson's 800 was obviously very good. His training has been going very well and he may have discovered a second event for himself."

The Indiana Invaders have four athletes qualified in five events for the 2005 USA Indoor National Championships with Hope Sanders (800, Mile), Adrian Swanson (800), Brandon Hon (60H), Ebbie Metzinger (Pole Vault).
