Posted: February 8, 2005 Athletics: USATF News & Notes, Volume 6, Number 11 Seaman wins U.S. 1-Mile Race walk title Two-time Olympian and 7-time U.S. indoor champion Tim Seaman won the U.S. 1-Mile race walk title in convincing fashion Friday night at the 2005 Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden in New York. Seaman won the newly reinstated event in 6 minutes, 0.76 seconds, becoming the first U.S. 1-mile indoor champion since Ron Daniel won in 1973. Seaman's performance is a new national championship record, eclipsing Dave Romansky's 6:13.4 set in 1972. 2004 USA Junior 10,000m walk champion Zachary Pollinger was the runner-up behind Seaman in 6:20.48, with Dave McGovern third in 6:26.88. Martin promoted to Director of Grass Roots Programs USATF has announced that Andy Martin has been promoted to the position of Director of Grass Roots Programs. Martin has been involved with various aspects of Grass Roots programs during his five years at USATF, and has worked with many others to develop a plan to move forward in this critical area of the organization. In his new role, Martin will oversee all aspects of USATF's Grass Roots endeavors including membership, associations, sanctions, youth, masters, and Long Distance Running programs. Prior to his promotion, Martin served USATF as the organization's Associate Director of Associations and Member Services, where he worked with the organization's 57 local associations to provide programs and services for USATF members, track clubs and sanctioned events. A prep star in New Jersey, where he won state titles in cross country and 3,200-meters, Martin was the Managing Director for USATF's New Jersey Association from 1998-2000, and owned and operated Sideline Sportswear, a custom screen-printing company from 1988-1999.
