Athletics: $5,000 available to Canadian Track Clubs

There is a great opportunity for Canadian Track & Field Clubs that is slipping through your fingers!

If I told you that I could guarantee you a MINIMUM of $5,000 to start a track & field program for youth in your community, would you not jump at the chance?

With the ING-Sponsored Run For Something Program, that is precisely the opportunity we all have. I have attached more about the program to this e-mail (in both English and French) for your perusal. The application is included in the attachment.

The deadline for applications was set at Monday, February 14th, so please get them in ASAP. At this point, the best bet is to fax them in.

All you have to do is find a male and female marathoner willing to compete in this year's ING Ottawa Marathon, and come up with a way to spend the money they will earn on a program for youth in your community. THE ATHLETES DO NOT HAVE TO BE MEMBERS OF YOUR CLUB! As long as they live in your area, and are willing to represent you in the race, they are eligible.

Last year, the debut of the ING R4SB allowed the Ottawa Lions Track & Field Club to introduce dozens of kids to our sport. These were kids above and beyond those we already had in our programs, resulting in our largest membership numbers in over a decade. Several of them have now continued on in our Junior Development Program, and could become our future stars.

We constantly talk about how we need to get more kids involved in track and field, we need to market ourselves better, we need to develop grass-roots programs, and get commercial sponsors on board... Well, here is a chance to combine all of those things, and I would hate to see us waste the opportunity.

Please, take a look, and get those applications in as soon as you can.

Happy Training,

Scott MacDonald
