Triathlon: Married Bliss - Limerick Couple Win Home Town Race

Eamon Horgan wrapped up the Limerick Duathlon Series title today. This was the Limerick mans 2nd win in a row in the best out of 3 series. The first run leg was close with Horgan sprinting down the first hill but Brian Crinion, Kenny Curran and Pat Ryan all caught him and the 4 had pulled away from the following group by the turnaround.

They were all close by the time they entered the first transition in just over 12mins. Horgan was the quickest on to the tri-bike and out on the bike course but was soon joined by Brian Crinion from Dublin. These two pulled out a good lead over the following group. They averaged over 40 kph on the 16 km circuit. They were followed into transiton (2.5 mins later) by Wes Murphy and the chasing pack.

Horgan and and Crinion battled all the way on the run and it was decided by an uphill spint finish with Horgan pipping Crinion at the post. Kevin Moloney put in a great final fun to finish in 3rd spot.

Eamon's wife Lisa had a fantastic race, winning her first competitive race of the season. Lisa and newcomer to the sport, Nessa Smyth from Dublin had a very lose first run, with both coming in about 14 mins. They were followed in by the race 1 winner Adrienne McCarthy with Tara Nolan hot on her tail. Lisa pulled ahead of Nessa on the cycle and Tara overtook Adrienne and tried to reel in Nessa. Lisa won was second n the National Series in 2004 pulled out a lead of about 1.5 mins. Nessa put in one of the fastest runs but could not make up enough ground to catch Lisa. Lisa won in 55mins 44secs with Nessa 2nd, less than a min behind. Tara came home in 3rd place with Adrienne in 4th. Adrienne leads the series with 1 race to go in 2 weeks. The womens Vet category had another close battle with 2 of Limericks best Joan Griffen and Ger LeGear fighting hard in all 3 legs. Joan won out with less than 30 secs to spare.

The next and final race in the Limerick Duathlon Series takes place at the same venue on Sunday 6th March at 11am.
