February 27, 2005 - SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships Athlete Quotes: Antwon Hicks, Ole Miss-Winner Men's 60-Meter Hurdles "I didn't get a quick start and started off sloppy. My race was all right, a little shaky, and at the middle everyone was even. I ran as hard as I could at the end. Because I didn't get a good start, I had to work for this win." Beau Walker, Alabama-Winner Women's 60-Meter Hurdles "(On first SEC championship) I'm about ready to cry. My dad flew in from Colorado, and I'm glad he got to see it. I was my favorite and PRed today. The SEC is always tough, a dominate field, and I put together my best race today." Kelly Willie, LSU---Winner Men's 60-Meter Dash "I feel blessed to be here. It was a good experience. I just thank god for giving me the ability to execute. I got off to a bad start but I was able to be patient and win the race. It was a good race." Fana Ashby, Auburn-Winner Women's 60-Meter Dash "I didn't run the race I wanted to at all. I was hoping to get in the teens. I can't complain though and I am happy with the win. I have a lot to work on to get to the teens and ready for the NCAAs." Erica Sigmont, Arkansas-Winner Women's Mile Run It was so slow, and I wanted to make the move I wanted to make. I was hurting (at the end), but I wanted to make my move where it was large enough. In the end, it worked out." Jaanus Uudmae, Arkansas-Men's Triple Jump Winner "Being a senior, I've been waiting a long time. I definitely thought I could win, and the long jump gave me confidence." Tiandra Ponteen, Florida----Winner Women's 400-Meter Dash "I just wanted to get to the break ahead. I got out to the good start. That's what I wanted to do because I felt that if I was ahead at the break I could keep that lead to win. So I am happy. It felt good (to set the new SEC Women's Indoor record) because I didn't do as well as I wanted last year at the SEC Championships." Peter Kosgei, Arkansas----Winner Men's 5000 Meter Run "This was a good race for me. The team did really good. We came together and all had a good race. The home crowd was great and helped me a lot. I never got tired and was able to finish well." Sherridan Kirk, Auburn-Men's 800-Meter Run "I was ready for somebody to make an early move, and no one did. This was an easy race. I wasn't really looking for a time because I had two good times before this. I was just looking for a win. My first SEC win feels great, but it seemed too easy, very easy." Nicole Cook, Tennessee-Women's 800-Meter Run "I just wanted to run a good race. I knew I had to get out to a fast start because I thought if I got out I would keep the lead because all the girls were really good. (On setting the new indoor collegiate record): I knew it would be fast, but I had no idea I would set a new record. I just thank god for blessing me with the ability to do it." Hazel Ann Regis, LSU-Winner Women's 200-Meter Dash "This was my first year running the 200, and it's getting better especially with the block start. I just wanted to get out and maintain. I wanted to get under 23, but I'm satisfied with this win." Candice Scott, Florida-Winner Women's Weight Throw "My first throw was my best throw and my best ever. It wasn't the best technique, but it was nice to get that out of the way. When you hit that first one, you can work on improving the rest of the throws." Brad Smith, Georgia -Winner Men's Pole Vault "It started off a little scary because it took me three attempts to make the first height. Everything started clicking after I made the first height. I was able to get the next ones. Everything just felt a little off at first. But I guess I figured it out and was able to win the competition." Felicia Guliford, Tennessee-Winner Women's 5,000-Meter Run "It was another pretty comfortable race, and I just followed the leaders. I knew they would come out fast and then fall back, and I would have to have a kick at the end. (Winning both 3,000 and 5,000) Again, I think mentally I felt good. It (the 3,000) set the tone for me." Edis Elkasevic, Auburn-Winner Men's Shot Put "It went well. It didn't end the way I wanted it to but I got the win so I'm happy. My first one was a big throw. I wasn't able to stay in the circle after that one but it was good enough to keep me in first for the rest." Said Ahmed, Arkansas-Winner Men's Mile Run "It was all about attitude. My coach told me to go hard and don't pay attention to the 800 and DMR. I went out and tried to hurt the other guys, and I was able to hold onto to it (the lead)." Said Ahmed, Arkansas-Anchor of Winning Men's DMR Relay "I was tired, and I didn't want the lead so I told the LSU guy to go for it and take the lead. It is easier when you are behind someone. It worked out well for me. In the DMR, I was just having fun, and I haven't had fun for awhile." Krystle Moss, Florida-Winner Women's High Jump "I think it went very well. It felt good to finally win. I have come in second and third so many times. It was a relief to finally get that win. Also, it improved my number for nationals in a couple of weeks so I am extremely happy about that." Jovanee Jarrett, Auburn-Winner Women's Triple Jump "The long jump is my best event, and I didn't make the finals yesterday so I came out with a vengeance today and PRed on my first jump. My coach spoke to me before and told me I could do it. This is my first SEC championship, and it is a great feeling." Kerron Clement, Florida-Winner Men's 400 Meters "I really just wanted to get points (for the team). My goal was to get a good start and then run a race to work towards nationals. It was really very easy." Kerron Clement, Florida-Anchor of Winning Men's 4x400 relay "We had the lead, and I'm a good front runner. The handoff went off exactly and went just wanted to give Florida points." Hazel Ann Regis, LSU-Anchor of Winning Women's 4x400 Relay "(On being behind when taking baton) I run smart all the time, and I like to run from behind. I ran a great 200 speed, and the 400 is my real race." Brooke Novak, Tennessee-Anchor of Winning Women's Distance Medley Relay "It thought the race went real well. I was relaxed throughout my whole part. I was hitting my splits exactly when I needed so I just relaxed and when the time came, made my move and took the lead to win the race." Wallace Spearmon Jr., Arkansas - Winner of Men's 200 meters "Running 20.35 two days in a row and getting the SEC meet and school record, I couldn't have asked for anything better. We knew we couldn't lose at home and after last year we had a bitter taste in our mouth. This year was sweet."
