Posted: March 8, 2005 Athletics: Emilie Mondor Confirms for MDS Nordion 10K Quebec’s own Emilie Mondor has confirmed her plans to run in the MDS Nordion 10K bringing with her hopes for a new personal best on Ottawa’s flat 10K course. Mondor is the first Canadian woman to ever run 5000m in under 15:00 – a feat she accomplished in 2003 at the World Championships in Athletics. Mondor’s first IAAF title came in 2004 when she lead Team Canada to a bronze medial on the senior short course race (4K) at the World Cross Country Championships. She also made her first Olympic appearance in Athens in 2004, where she ranked 17th in the 5000m against stiff competition. The MDS Nordion 10K is one of the weekend's most competitive races. It is an exciting event with over 5000 participants. Last year was an extremely close race with Duncan Kibet (Kenya) winning with 28:59 over Eric Chirchir just a moment behind him with 28:58. Aster Demissie won the women's category with 32:30. The race starts on Saturday, May 28, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. Viisit the National Capital Race weekend web site: www.ncm.ca. Comment on this story. |
