Posted: March 8, 2005 Athletics: Maratona Di Roma Reaches 10,000 Entrants From David Monti (c) 2004 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com By Alberto Zorzi The 2005 Maratona di Roma set a record last week when next Sunday's race reached more than 10,000 entrants, the first time ever for an Italian marathon. The 10,000th runner was 36 year-old Laura Mancinelli, registered on 01-Mar at 11:15 am. At the end of registration time, the total number of registered runners was 10,126 for the 11th edition of the race: 8,314 men and 1,812 women. Six thousand two hundred and eighty-nine are Italian, while 3,837 come from abroad (the most from Germany, 902). Last year, 9,124 athletes runners started the race, the previous record. Also a record for Italy were the 115 registered for the wheelchair and hand cycle races. Just Berlin Marathon and New York City Marathon, organizers said, had more disabled athletes than Rome.
