The event is arguably the program's most unique qualifier. It features a .64 mile point-to-point swim, a 7.3 mile bike leg over logging roads (mountain bikes are recommended) and a 5.2 mile cross-country run. It will be staged on Saturday, June 18 at the Madison Arm Resort on picturesque Lake Hebgen near West Yellowstone, MT. The fastest male and female amateur residents will earn the right to race against the winners of the other 49 state qualifiers at the "Best of the US Championship" in beautiful Gilford, NH on August 20. The event is named for Janet Clarkson, an intrepid outdoorswoman, who died of Ewings Sarcoma in 2001 at the age of 37. Event proceeds are donated to the American Cancer Society for Cancer research, and a yearly scholorship is given to a deserving student athlete.
