Athletics: Strong New Zealand Athletic team selected for World Youth Champs

Athletics New Zealand has made an initial selection of 16 athletes to represent New Zealand at the World Youth Athletic Championships to be held in Marrakesh, Morocco in July.

The athletes selected have achieved the International Association of Athletics Federations standards set for entry and also won their individual age group title at the New Zealand championships in Wanganui earlier this month.

Further selections will be made following the North and South Island secondary schools championships in early April. There is a limit of two athletes per event from each country selecting teams. All selections are provisional on the athletes meeting fitness criteria prior to leaving New Zealand for the championships.

The initial selections are;

Women: Stacey Linderboom (North) 100m and 200m, Morgan Coulton (Taranaki) 400m, Sarah Tatton (Manawatu) 800m, Billy Farrow (Canterbury) 1500m, Fiona Morrison (Canterbury) 100m hurdles, Sarah Saddleton (Auckland) high jump, Nneka Okpala (Auckland) triple jump, Julia Brown (Canterbury) pole vault, Megan Parkhill (Manawatu) discus, Amanda Aldridge (Waikato) heptathlon.
