Triathlon: Investors Group Triathlon set to host National Sprint Championship

Mark your calendar. On July 3rd 2005, the Investors Group Triathlon will host the 2005 Canadian Sprint National Championship !!

Over the past several years, this event has grown from a grass root event to the largest triathlon in Atlantic Canada, and it quickly became one of the most popular annual sporting events in HRM. The triathlon had been recognized by Triathlon Canada officials for its attendance, venue and organization. As a result they have been selected to host the 2005 Canadian Sprint Triathlon Championship, to be held on July 3rd, 2005, at Lake Banook in Dartmouth, NS.

This year’s event will feature both an Age Group Race as well as an Elite Race. Athletes will compete for various money prizes in a Sprint Triathlon format. (750 meter Swim / 20 Km Bike / 5 Km Run). As the event will attract a great number of athletes from across Canada, the organizing committee is expecting many of Canada’s top triathletes to be in attendance, including few of the past Olympians.

While the top triathletes in NS and in the country will be competing in the Elite category, all participating triathletes will certainly test their fitness level on a course where the distances will be challenging, yet attainable, even for those trying this great sport for the first time. In fact, the event’s primary mandate has always been to attract and initiate new sports fans to participate in this exciting, challenging and growing sport.

Sylvain Morin, Chair / Race Director mention: “every year we always witness a large group of athletes participating in their first triathlon. And, this year, they will also be competing with some of the very best in Canada”. This Canadian Championship formula will certainly make for a very exciting event. Morin continued.
