Alison Dunlap earned the title of Mountain Bike World Champion in 2001 with an emotional performance in Vail, Colorado. Though the World Championship was the crowning achievement of her career, she is also a two-time US Olympian (1996, 2000), 2002 UCI World Cup Mountain Bike Champion, six-time US National Cyclocross Champion, and three-time US National Mountain Bike Champion (cross country and short track). CTS Coach Dean Golich has been Alison’s coach for more than seven years, and the two continue to work towards Alison’s goal of defending her National Mountain Bike Championship title and helping lead Team Luna to victory. Earlier this year, Alison also joined the Carmichael Training Systems coaching team and we welcome her to our Premier coaching staff. Max Shute is a Carmichael Training Systems Expert coach. Max obtained his Ph.D. in Nutrition in Sport and Chronic Disease from Virginia Tech. When Max was getting his masters degree he had the opportunity to conduct research on carbohydrate replacement and immune response in marathon running. For his Ph.D., Max did extensive research in the roles antioxidants play in immune function and aerobic exercise performance in trained cyclists. Throughout his athletic career he has been involved in road racing. Founded by Olympian, US Olympic Committee Coach of the Year, and bestselling author, Chris Carmichael in 1999, Carmichael Training Systems (CTS) is a community of athletes and coaches dedicated to improving the lives of active individuals though enhanced fitness and nutrition coaching programs. Providing guidance, education, and programs for individuals of all abilities, CTS has also paved the way for some of the world’s greatest athletes including six-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong, 2000 Olympic Time Trial Silver Medalist and World Champion Mari Holden, Montreal Canadiens Captain Saku Koivu, 2001 Mountain Bike World Champion Alison Dunlap, and Olympic Gold Medalist Swimmer Ed Moses.
