Triathlon: Oscar Galindez On Fire, Wins Ubatuba With New Course Record

File Photo

UBATUBA, Brazil (April 3, 2005) Oscar Galindez (BRA/ARG), South America's most accomplished triathlete ever, blazed to another win, course record by almost four minutes, and bike course record this morning at the Reebok/PowerBar Triathlon Long Distance (1.9 km S/90 km B/21.1 km R), in Ubatuba, Brazil. His 3:50:14 was almost eight-and-a-half minutes faster than runner-up Ezequiel Morales, another Argentine pro living in Brazil.

The moderately flat course required constant pressure on the chain ring and focus on foot-speed, and 34 C/93 F, still air was his biggest challenge. "Wow, I had to work hard today just to set a strong pace," said Galindez. "It was hotter than fire out there."

Galindez, sponsored by Reebok, Memorial, Oakley, Profile Design, Ironman Wetsuits, Litespeed-Ciclovece, Zipp Speed Weaponry, and OG sportswear, will now focus his training for Ironman Brazil, in Florianopolis, where he hopes to best his 2004 second place and reclaim his 2003 champion title.

South America's most successful and well-liked triathlete, Galindez is a native of Cordoba, Argentina, and has been racing triathlon since he was 16 years old. Among many other titles, he's a two-time bronze medallist at the Pan-American Games, Pan-American and South American champion, Sydney 2000 Olympian, Ironman Brazil champion, and Half-Ironmans Pucon and Mar del Plata champion.
