Posted: April 4, 2005 Athletics: Third Eye Blind Headlining Salt Lake City Marathon & 5K Awards Party April 23 Fazoli's Pasta Party Will Rock with Pre-Race Concert by The Romantics SALT LAKE CITY - (April 4, 2005) - Third Eye Blind will headline the post-race award concert and party for the Salt Lake City Marathon, the Wells Fargo 5K and the Ken Garff Volvo Bike Tour at The Nu Skin Theater at the Delta Center at 8:00 pm on Saturday, April 23, 2005. A free ticket is included for every marathon participant, Wells Fargo 5K and Ken Garff Volvo Bike Tour participant. Doors will open at 6:00pm when race participants' accomplishments will be celebrated with an awards ceremony at 7:00pm. The band will play at 8:00pm and seating is General Admission. Third Eye Blind broke thru nationally in 1997 with their hit single "Semi-Charmed Life" and later, they followed up with four more undeniable rock anthems: "Graduate," "How's It Going To Be," "Losing A Whole Year" and "Jumper." Additional tickets will be available to the public at $20 ($10 for children under 10) through The Delta Center Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, 800-325-SEAT or on the web at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets will also be available at the Fitness Expo at the Salt Palace Convention Center on Thursday, April 21 and Friday, April 22, at the Fazoli's Pasta Party, and at the finish line on race day. The Romantics, well known for their party tune "What I Like About You", will perform a free concert at the Gallivan Center in conjunction the Fazoli's Pasta Party on Friday Night, April 22. Sponsored in part by Salt Lake City Corporation and Fazoli's, the pasta party is a great way to fuel up, meet friends and get psyched for the race. Tickets for the meal are available at SaltLakeCityMarathon.com. The concert is free and open to the public on at 7:00pm. The Romantics will also play at the finish line of the race on April 23 near the Olympic Legacy Fountain at The Gateway. The second annual Salt Lake City Marathon & 5K "Run, Bump & Boogie" will be held on April 23, 2005 and total participant numbers are expected to nearly double compared to last year. A full weekend of opportunities for fun and celebration abound. The Ken Garff Volvo Bike Tour is new this year, featuring a 25-mile non-stop, leisurely morning ride through the most scenic and spectacular parts of the Salt Lake Valley. The tour, starting at 6:00am, follows the Salt Lake City Marathon route on race morning April 23. The Salt Lake City Marathon was among 12 new favorites listed by Runner's World in the January 2005 Marathon Guide: "Small Wonders: Big Fun, Big Scenery, Big Rewards." January's Competitor Magazine and Rocky Mountain Sports Magazine both tout Salt Lake City as the "Best Race at Altitude." Online registration is available at SaltLakeCityMarathon.com. With a 25 percent increase in the prize purse to $125,000, this race is expected to attract a deeper world-class field. The website has easy-to-use registration forms, training information, travel and accommodation links, special stories and photographs from the inaugural event.
