Athletics: ING Ottawa Women’s Marathon Field Deepens – New Course Record in View

Expectations are running high for a new course record in the women’s marathon in 2005 as the more athletes confirm plans to attend. 2004 ING Ottawa Marathon winner Lioudmila Kortchaguina will return to defend her title and try win the event for a third time. Her competition incudes 2004 Canadian Marathon Champion Nicole Stevenson, Russian Larissa Zousko (a sub 2:30 marathoner), Britain’s Michelle Lee (a 2:35 runner), Mexican Margarita Cabello (a 2:37 runner) and Kenyan Esther Jeptum (a sub 2:30 runner). All are racing to beat the 2:30:37 course record set by Canadian Sylvia Ruegger back in 1984.
