Posted: April 16, 2005 Triathlon: Moseley And Moore Among The Favorites At The "Best Of The Us Amateur Triathlete Competition's" New Mexico Qualifier (St. Paul, MN - 4/14/05) Larry Marshall, director of the Milkman Triathlon, and "Best of the US.." management invite New Mexico's thriving triathlon community to participate in the 2005 Milkman Triathlon on June 4. Milkman, aka the Southwest Regional Sprint Championship, is part of the inaugural "Best of the US Amateur Triathlete Competition," and promises to be hotly contested. For more information on the Milkman Triathlon, visit www.bestoftheustriathletes.com. A special invitation is extended to the elite amateur athletes of the Land of Enchantment, as the fastest male and female resident amateurs will advance to the "Best of the US Championships" in picturesque Gilford, NH on August 20, where they'll race head-to-head with the winners of the other 49 state qualifiers. In order to insure that all states will be represented at the Championship, a 5-deep passdown system will be in effect. If the "Best of the US.." state champion is unable to attend the championship, his or her slot will be offered to the next in line, and so on. Below are a few of athletes that set the tri standards in New Mexico. We hope to see them on the Milkman's starting line on June 4. Keep in mind that every new season produces new stars. Don't be surprised if a heretofore unknown, or two, upsets some of the established elites. CLAY MOSELEY (34, Los Alamos) Clay has been a major force in southwestern racing for the last three years. He is the defending Milkman champ. He was also victorious in 2004 at Jay Benson and the Socorro Chile Harvest Triathlon. Other men warranting consideration include SHAUN BURNS (26, Albuquerque), MIKE MONTOYA (35, Las Cruces), PAT BRUG (40, Los Alamos). CHRISTIAN KRUEGER (37, Socorro) and the ageless PERRY TOLES (48, Roswell). TERRY MOORE (25, Las Cruces) Runner-up to pro Mary Uhl at last year's Milkman, Terry has established herself as arguably her state's premier amateur female triathlete. Other impressive performances in 2004 include podium finishes at Jay Benson, which she won, Sococco Chile Harvest (2nd behind Uhl) and the Tucson Tri (3rd). Other names to keep in mind include Albuquerque residents VANESSA BERG and ADRIENNE MCGILL, and 15-year-old Socorro triathlete ALYSSA HIGGS. Comment on this story. |
