Posted: April 20, 2005 Athletics: Radcliffe And Brown Named To U.K. World Marathon Team From David Monti (c) 2004 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com In the wake of last Sunday's Flora London Marathon, U.K. Athletics named their marathon team for the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, which also incorporates the IAAF World Marathon Cup, a team comptition. Both Jon Brown (Sheffield AC) and Paula Radcliffe (Bedford & County), the top two British finishers at last Sunday's marathon, were named to the team. Brown told RRW last Saturday that he intends to compete in Helsinki, while Radcliffe has yet to make her decision between the marathon and the 10,000m. "We will make a decision closer to the time, but it is definitely an option," said Radcliffe's husband and manager, Gary Lough, in a text message to RRW today. The other team members named were: MEN - Huw Lobb, Bedford & County Dan Robinson, Tipton Harriers WOMEN - Mara Yamauchi, Harrow AC Hayley Haining, City of Glasgow AC Debbie Mason, Tipton Harriers Liz Yelling, Bedford & County Commenting on the team, U.K. Athletics Technical Director for Endurance said: "Given the rigours of marathon training, it would be no surprise if one or two of those selected were unable to make the start lines in Helsinki five months hence. So U.K. Athletics has nominated a reserve, Tracey Morris, who ran well in last year’s Olympics but was not quite fit enough to race in London on Sunday, and she has agreed to prepare for the Helsinki Marathon." The Men's Marathon is on Saturday, 13 August and the Women's Marathon on Sunday, 14 August. Both start at 14:20 local time. Comment on this story. |
