Posted: May 4, 2005 Athletics: Join The Excitement - Volunteer to help at the Coca-Cola Zero. Rock 'n' Roll Marathon SAN DIEGO, Calif. May 4, 2005 - Volunteer openings are available for school students, community groups, corporations and individuals to be involved in the excitement of the eighth annual Coca-Cola Zero Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. Volunteers are needed to assist at the two-day, pre-race Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, June 3, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the San Diego Convention Center. Volunteer opportunities are also available on the day of the marathon at the start and finish line or at water stations along the 26.2-mile course. New for this year's crew, each volunteer will be entered in the Race Crew Appreciation drawing. For each shift completed, volunteers automatically receive a chance to win two round-trip tickets to any Southwest Airlines destination and two nights at a selected Starwood Hotel property (air and lodging subject to availability). In addition, all volunteers receive an official Coca-Cola Zero Rock 'n' Roll Marathon T-shirt, goodie bag and ticket to the post-race concert featuring Pinback. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at Coors Amphitheatre in Chula Vista. The Coca-Cola Zero Rock 'n' Roll Marathon celebrates its eighth running after being voted Best Marathon" by CompetitorMagazine. Televised locally and nationally and open to runners and walkers from novice to elite, more than 40 live bands line the new scenic course that passes a number of San Diego highlights. From the start line in Balboa Park to the finish line at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, participants are treated to everything from rock and reggae to blues and hip-hop. Adding to the excitement will be more than 2,000 local high school cheerleaders competing in the Spirit on the Course" competition.
