Athletics: Rudolph named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Amy Rudolph has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after she ran a world-leading time during her debut performance in the women's 10,000m Sunday at the Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto, California.

A two-time U.S. Olympian, Rudolph ran 31 minutes, 18.96 seconds to win, which also makes her the second-fastest American woman of all-time behind American record holder Deena Kastor (30:50.32).

World-leading performers this weekend include two-time Olympic gold medalist Maurice Greene, who ran 10.03 seconds to win the men's 100m at the Martinique Grand Prix II in Fort de France, Martinique. UCLA senior and Olympic 4x400m relay gold medalist Monique Henderson ran 50.91 seconds to win the women's 400m in leading UCLA's 13th consecutive victory over USC at the UCLA/USC Dual Meet. Treniere Clement ran 4:35.07 to win the women's mile at the Penn Relays. Lisa Galaviz ran 9:50.93 to win the women's 3,000 steeplechase at Stanford and 2004 Olympian Jillian Schwartz cleared 4.43 meters/14 feet, 6.25 inches to win the women's pole vault at the Drake Relays.

Now in its fifth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
