Posted: May 7, 2005 Athletics: Amy Skieresz Out Of Retirement? From David Monti (c) 2004 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com The dominant distance runner in the U.S. collegiate ranks in the late 1990's, Amy Skieresz (now Skieresz-Wilson) is apparently serious about coming out of retirement. At today's OneAmerican Festival Mini-Marathon, a half-marathon in Indianapolis, In., Skieresz-Wilson ran a solid 1:14:28, good for fifth place, her best result since winning both the NCAA 5000m and 10,000m titles in 1998. She won both those titles in 1997, too, and was the NCAA cross country champion in 1996. Skieresz-Wilson, now 28, stopped competing seriously in 2000, after coming back from surgery on a benign tumor in her leg which ended her NCAA career in 1999. She re-emerged last year with 2:42:57 marathon debut in Long Beach, Calif., last October. She hasn't competed since then. Skieresz-Wilson, who ran for the University of Arizona, is married to Ryan Wilson, the former University of Arkansas star. Wilson, too, retired. Comment on this story. |
