Athletics: Felix, Hoffa win in Doha

2004 Olympic women's 200m silver medalist Allyson Felix, and 2004 Olympian Reese Hoffa each won their respective events Friday at the 2005 Athletic Super Grand Prix in Doha, Qatar.

Felix, who ended the 2004 season ranked #2 in the world at 200 meters, won her specialty in Doha in 22.78 seconds, equaling the fourth-fastest time in the world this year posted last month by South Africa's Geraldine Pillay.

Hoffa won in Doha with a best of 21.19 meters/69 feet, 10.25 inches, the second best throw in the world this year. On April 23 in Athens, Ga., he threw 21.14m/69-4.25, which is now the world's third-best throw this season. 2004 Olympic bronze medalist Joachim Olsen of Denmark was the runner-up on Friday with a best of 20.78m/68-2.25.

In other men's action, 2003 World Outdoor Championships silver medalist Tyree Washington was the runner-up in the 400 meters with a seasonal best time of 45.53 seconds. 2004 Olympian Nagmeldin Ali Abubakr of the Sudan won the race in 45.52.

Another runner-up performance was turned in by two-time Olympic silver medalist Terrence Trammell, who placed second in the 110m hurdles in 13.18 seconds, the third-fastest time in the world this year. 2004 Olympian Stanislav Olijar of Latvia posted the fastest time in the world this season to win the race in 13.11.

In the men's 100 meters, Portugal's Francis Obikwelu won the race in 10.05 seconds, with 2004 Olympic 200m gold medalist Shawn Crawford the runner-up in 10.14 and reigning Olympic 100m gold medalist Justin Gatlin placing third, also in 10.14. Elsewhere, two-time Olympian James Carter was the runner-up in the 400m hurdles in 48.93 seconds. Jamaica's Ian Weakley won the race in 48.84.

In women's action, 2004 Jamaican Olympian Delloreen Ennis-London won the 100m hurdles in 12.77 seconds, 2004 Olympic Trials fourth-place finisher Danielle Carruthers was the runner-up in 12.83 seconds. Yolanda McCray was third in 13.26.
