Triathlon: Keys & Stone Are "Best Of.." South Carolina

(St. Paul, MN - 5/14/05) Like Brian Smith, winner of the North Carolina Qualifier the previous weekend, Brooks Keys (24, Central) saved his best race for his state's qualifer in Clemson SC on May 14. Finishing second overall behind pro James Vavra, Keys outdistanced his closest in-state amateur rival, USAT Honorable Mention All American Jamie Church (24, Greer), who placed 5th overall, by 1:04.

USAT All American Michelle Stone (32, Spartanburg) will join Keys on the starting line at the "Best of the US Campionship" in New Hampshire. At Clemson, she outdistanced fellow South Carolinan Jenny Leiser (25, Charleston), who placed 3rd overall, by exactly one minute. Leiser, like Stone, has made frequent trips to the Winner's Circle in recent years.

Here are the South Carolina Pass-Down slots:

Pass-Down #1: Jamie Church (24, Greer) & Jenny Leiser (25, Spartanburg)

Pass-Down #2: Chris Schoup (43, Spartanburg) & Tracy McKee (32, Charleston)
Pass-Down #3: Scott Murr (43, Greenville) & Rose Wilson (51, Greenville)
Pass-Down #4: John Alvarez (22, Bluffton) & Kinsey Eschenburg (24, Mount Pleasant)
