Athletics: Injuries obliged Mondor to passed on her 2005 track season

Mondor stopped to restarted stronger

Health issues and latest injuries have obliged Canadian Champion and Olympian Emilie Mondor to think about her long term plan for this year’s summer track season. Very sick over winter, the return to hard intensity trainings have been putting her 24 years old body under lots of pressure causing some problems to adapted to the track training. Feeling in a unhealthy rush to get into high international shape soon enough to contest her last World Championships’ 10th place finish, Mondor prefers taking care of her general health and slowly build up toward a fall season of road racing and cross country, two areas where she is known to excelled. The 2005 seasons have also been seen as transitional ones for her as she is planning on moving in longer distance races, focusing on starting with the Half-marathon distances in October 2005 for the prestigious IAAF World Half-Marathon held in Edmonton, Canada.

It was all very tough decisions for the athlete and team but the choice have been made to prevent further disappointments and a long term career in Track and Field.

Mondor fitness is good right now but the speed training and specific track work are bothering her and her injuries rendering the upcoming season most unlikely. Already confirmed in prestigious track meets like Rome and Paris Golden Leagues, she thinks withdrawing for the 2005 editions in the objective of being back there in 2006.

The Post-Olympic year is often a year of transition for lots of elite athletes and part of the process on refocusing upon new goals for the next 4 years cycle.

Along with recovery, Mondor with keep involved in lots of promotions for sport in Canada.
