Athletics: Godina named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - John Godina has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after setting a world-leading mark and personal best in the men's shot put Sunday at the adidas Track Classic in Carson, California.

A two-time Olympic medalist and three-time world outdoor champion, Godina enjoyed the best performance of his career in winning the ADT men's shot put with a world-leading throw of 22.20 meters/72 feet, 10 inches. Godina, who posted his previous career best of 22.02m/72-3 back in 1999, held the previous world-leading mark this season with a toss of 21.83m/71-7.50 when he earned the inaugural Visa Champion title.
