Posted: June 6, 2005 Athletics: Campbell, Williams Join Ostrava 100M Field By Bob Ramsak, Track Profile © 2005 Track Profile all rights reserved TrackProfile.com Briton Darren Campbell and Bernard Williams of the U.S. will take on world leader Asafa Powell in the 100 meters at Thursday's Golden Spike IAAF Super Grand Prix in Ostrava, Czech Republic, organizers announced today. Campbell, a member of the British 4x100 relay Olympic gold medal winning squad, is the reigning world championships bronze medallist in the event. Williams, who won the Olympic silver medal in the 200 last year, will make his second outing of the year in the shorter dash. Powell, the top-ranked sprinter in 2004, leads the world after his 9.84 win at the Jamaica International in Kingston last month. Last Saturday, the 22-year-old Jamaican was outleaned by Olympic champion Justin Gatlin at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, where both were credited with wind-assisted 9.84 performances. Three-quarters of the Nigerian 4x100 relay quartet that captured the bronze medal in Athens --Deji Aliu, Aaron Fasuba and Aaron Egbele-- are also in the field, along with Jamaican Michael Frater.
