Posted: June 17, 2005 Athletics: Canada Updates World Youth Hopefuls List June 17, 2005 Ottawa – As the deadline for athlete qualification for the 2005 IAAF World Youth Championships approaches, Athletics Canada announced today an updated list of top young athletes who have met the performance standards to qualify for the Canadian team which will be competing in Marrakech, Morocco, July 14-17. The following highly-ranked athletes have achieved the qualifying standard and are currently ranked in the top two in Canada in their events. These athletes will be named to the Canadian team unless they are displaced by other athletes achieving better performances between now and June 22, 2005, the end of the qualification period. The athletes must maintain their current level of performance and competitiveness, and be injury-free to assure their position on the team, which will be announced June 24th. All final selections are subject to approval by Athletics Canada’s selection committee. Based on their strong results to date, Athletics Canada looks forward to the participation of these athletes on the World Youth team in July. Team Canada World Youth Championships Hopefuls
The final Canadian team will be announced on June 24th. It’s expected that approximately 30 athletes aged 15-17 as of December 31, 2005 will be selected to the team. Athletics Canada may select a maximum of two athletes per individual event.
