Athletics: Canada Names Canada's Top Youth Athletes to 2005 IAAF World Youth Championships Team

June 28, 2005 Ottawa – Thirty-eight of Canada’s finest youth track and field athletes (aged 15-17 as of December 31, 2005) have been named to the national team which will represent Canada at the upcoming IAAF World Youth Championships taking place in Marrakech - MOR, July 13-17.

“The World Youth Championships will provide a great opportunity for young Canadian athletes to have their first exposure to international track and field,” says Bruce Pirnie, head coach of the Canadian team competing in Marrakech. “At thirty-eight athletes, this is one of the largest teams Canada has brought to the World Youth Championships. This success is a reflection of all the hard work that is being done in school and club athletics in Canada. “

The following highly-ranked athletes have qualified for the team according to Athletics Canada’s selection criteria and have been approved for selection to the team by the association’s selection committee. Athletics Canada congratulates each team member and looks forward to their participation on the world youth team in less than a month.
