Triathlon: Tennessee, Florida, Minnesota Appear To Be The Teams To Beat At "Best Of The US Championship"

(St. Paul, MN -6/28/05):

2001 US Triathlete of the Year, Bruce Gennari & perennial nominee for that honor on the distaff side, Shelby Sheffield, were victorious at the excellently-produced McMinnville City Triathlon/Best of the US Tennessee Qualifier on June 25.

The top 3 male/female state tandems at the "Best of the US Championship" in New Hampshire on August 20, receive special "State Team" awards, and Tennessee is among the favored squads to land on that prestigious podium.

According to "Best of the US" PR Director, Jerry MacNeil, "At this point in time, Tennessee's team may be the team to beat." It won't be easy for them, though. They'll have to outrace fantastic teams from Florida (John Reback & Lotte Branigan), Minnesota (Brian Bich & Emily Deppe), Arizona (Dameon Hahn & Erica McClurg-Jones), Hawaii (Peter Hursty & Bree Myers-Wee), Colorado (Marek Dvorak & Wendy Mader) & New Hampshire's dark-horse home-squad (Ryan Kelly & Randy Sworstedt), just to name a few. And if ex-pro Donna Kay-Ness accepts her invitation, then Connecticut has to be added to this amazing list.

Other exciting dark-horse teams are being sent from VA (featuring women's prohibitive favorite, Margie Shapiro), NJ (featuring Christopher Martin), the Carolinas, Texas & the list goes on and on. And don't forget that 20 states, including talent-rich California, Georgia and Washington, have yet to determine their representatives. I have no doubt that this will be the most EXCITING & COMPETITIVE amateur triathlon ever staged!"
